Pack the BB bag

Packing the baby bag is an exciting step on the road to meeting your little baby. However, it can also feel overwhelming to know exactly what is needed for the first few days of labor and delivery. Here comes a list of essential things to pack to make your experience as smooth and comfortable as possible.

For You as an Expectant Mother

When giving birth, it is important that you feel comfortable and relaxed. Here are some things that may help you during and after childbirth:

  1. Comfortable clothes before and after childbirth

    • Soft, loose clothes to go into labor with and to have to go home in.
    • Pajamas or soft clothes to rest after giving birth.
    • Nursing bras and nursing tops if you plan to breastfeed.
    • Warm socks and slippers - the floors are not always warm or clean.
    • Extra underwear - preferably a pair of large and soft panties.
  2. Hygiene articles for the mother

    • Toothbrush and toothpaste.
    • Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap – BB may have these, but it can be nice to have your own favorites.
    • Lip balm – the air in the hospital can be dry, and it's nice to have something moisturizing for the lips.
    • Hair brush, hair ties, and maybe a dry shampoo.
    • We would also recommend these products from Plume.
  3. After Childbirth

    • Nappies – the hospital usually has large ones after the birth, but if you prefer your own it might be good to bring a pack.
    • Soft stomach or nursing pillow for support.
    • Nipple cream and nursing pads if you plan to breastfeed.

For your Partner

Your partner or whoever accompanies you to the birth may also need to pack a few things to be prepared:

  1. Clothing and Comfort

    • Extra clothes - it can be a long day or night, and it's nice to have something comfortable to change into.
    • A pillow and blanket - to be able to rest between laps.
    • Snacks and drinks – it can be difficult to leave the labor ward to find something to eat.
  2. Entertainment

    • Download books, movies or music to pass the time.
    • Mobile and charger - to keep in touch with loved ones, and to document the first moments with the baby.

For the Baby

Of course, your newborn must also be ready for his first days of life! Here's what you need to pack for the baby:

  1. Clothes

    • 2-3 wrap bodysuits and trousers, preferably in organic cotton or bamboo to be gentle on sensitive skin.
    • 2 hats
    • Soft socks and possibly small mittens if it's cold.
    • An overall or warm blanket for the journey home depending on the season.
  2. Diapers and Hygiene

    • Pack a pair of your own Bammies diapers ! Our plant-based diapers are perfect for the sensitive newborn skin and kind to both your baby and the planet.
    • Baby blanket - the hospital often has their own, but it can be nice to have your own soft blanket to wrap the baby in.
    • Babynest - we would recommend this one from Najell
  3. Child car seat

    • Don't forget to prepare the car seat so that you can safely bring your baby home from the hospital!

Important Documents and Other Small Things

  • ID documents : Make sure to bring identification for both you and your partner.
  • Childbirth letter : If you have written down your wishes and thoughts regarding the birth.
  • Camera : Although most people use mobile phones, you may want a camera to capture special moments.

Bonus (if available)

  • Massage oil or a small massage pillow – for extra relaxation during labour.
  • Chewing gum or throat lozenges - it can be nice to have something fresh during labor.

Finally – Pack in good time

To avoid last-minute stress, make sure to have your BB bag ready a few weeks before the expected delivery date. Keep it near the front door so you can quickly leave when the time is right.

With a well-thought-out and practical packing in the BB bag, you can feel safe and ready for the magical moment when you get to meet your baby for the first time. Good luck!
